Popeye Village at Anchor Bay is approximately 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Sliema. The drive takes around 30 to 35 minutes, passing through Bugibba and the St. Paul's Bay area along Malta's northern coastal corridor. The Rotunda of Mosta is a remarkable 19th-century church with one of the largest unsupported church domes in the world. During World War II, in April 1942, a German bomb penetrated the dome during Mass while around 300 worshippers were inside. Miraculously, the bomb failed to explode. The actual defused bomb is displayed in the church's sacristy museum, making Mosta a genuinely remarkable and moving destination beyond its architectural significance.
