The Rotunda of Mosta is a remarkable 19th-century church with one of the largest unsupported church domes in the world. During World War II, in April 1942, a German bomb penetrated the dome during Mass while around 300 worshippers were inside. Miraculously, the bomb failed to explode. The actual defused bomb is displayed in the church's sacristy museum, making Mosta a genuinely remarkable and moving destination beyond its architectural significance.
Sliema and Malta generally enjoy a warm Mediterranean climate. Summer is hot and sunny but can be very intense outdoors.
