The EAV Circumvesuviana is a busy commuter train that passes through Pompeii on its way back to Naples. Tickets are $3.25 (€3), and advance tickets are not possible, so you risk standing room only for the entire 35-minute trip. It is also not air-conditioned.

The Campania Express Line is an air-conditioned, tourist-oriented train service. Tickets start at $16.25 (€15). Beware, though, that there are only four departures daily, so you will have less flexibility in timing your return.

Pompeii to Naples by public bus

Flixbus operates the Pompei to Naples bus route; tickets start at $10.85 (€10). The trip takes about 35 minutes, and note that it leaves from the modern Pompei city, not ancient Pompeii.

“Vi var mycket nöjda med kvaliteten på den service vi fick från Day Trip. Vi hade två resor med Day Trip: den 31 augusti från Aten till Lefkada och den 7 september från Lefkada tillbaka till Aten. Båda resorna inkluderade stopp vid natursköna platser i Grekland. Båda förarna var utmärkta och tillmötesgående. Vi vill dock särskilt uppmärksamma Panos Peppas, som var vår förare från Lefkada till Aten. “Gonzalo från Daytrip var vår chaufför och han var helt fantastisk. Han gjorde allt för att hitta oss eftersom vår mobiltäckning var dålig. Han väntade tålmodigt i lobbyn tills vi kom, så att han kunde köra oss från Tulum Dreams Resort till vårt andra hotell i Cancún, en och en halv timme bort nära flygplatsen inför vår hemresa. Han var artig, respektfull och vänlig. Han såg till att vi hade det bekvämt under hela resan. Snabb och effektiv. “Marianna hämtade oss för att köra oss från Heraklion till Chania. Vädret var hemskt, och på grund av detta kom Marianna några minuter sent. Hon kontaktade mig för att meddela det. Marianna bor i Chania och gjorde resan väldigt intressant genom att berätta om lokala sevärdheter och saker att göra i Chania. Marianna är en säker förare och vi kände oss alla trygga med både hastigheten och hur bra hon körde i det kraftiga regnet. Hon är en underbar person och talar flytande engelska. Bekväma och säkra resor i Mexiko

Naples to Pompeii and to Sorrento

“Fabulous service and good decision as hubby and I in early 60s We were sent details of drivers name, Mariano, type and car registration but he was waiting with friendly smile at end of train platform. We had booked 2 hours stopover at Pompeii and able to leave luggage in car which was a bonus. Couple of jokes about mount Versuvius last eruption and talked about points of interest. He contacted owner of our booking in Sorrento and was met as no vehicle access where we had booked. Maybe costly compared to bus or train transfers but we thought it was worth not having to drag luggage etc. would recommend and book again if w3 return.”
