Visit Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest permanent lake, for peaceful reflection and watersports.
Lake Bohinj is a still, glacial lake surrounded by dense pine forests. The area’s remoteness and quiet atmosphere contrast with Bled, which can sometimes be crowded during peak travel seasons. Bohinj is the perfect place for peaceful reflection, or to kayak or paddleboard across still waters. Travelers can also take cable car rides from here up to Vogel Mountain for panoramic views of the lake and forests below and access to alpine trails. Near the lake, the 700-year-old church of John the Baptist with its intricate interior is worth exploring.

Tucked away in an alpine forest, the towering Savica Waterfall enchants visitors.
The Savica Waterfall was made famous by France Preseren’s poem, ”The Baptism at the Savica.” Its misty spray creates a mystical atmosphere for the short but scenic hike leading up to the 78-meter-high cascade, bursting forth in a dual stream and pooling below. Visitors should prepare for the 20-minute hike with sturdy shoes and plenty of water, as there are over 500 stone steps to climb. As the falls are at the far end of Lake Bohinj, they offer a greater sense of remoteness and natural splendor. The falls can become inaccessible in the winter months.
