Ansan's city center is about 43 km (27 miles) from Seoul, roughly a 40 minute drive. Daebudo Island, on Ansan's coast, is a bit farther at about 56 km (35 miles), generally 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. Both are easily manageable for a same-day round trip.
A full day covers both highlights comfortably: a few hours exploring Wongok-dong's food stalls and cultural museum, then an afternoon on Daebudo Island for the tidal flats, reed fields, or a rail bike ride. If you only want one experience, half a day is enough, but combining both makes the trip worthwhile.
At low tide, the tidal flats open up for clam digging and walks toward small islets, while the reed fields at Daebu Bada Hyanggi Theme Park make for scenic strolls. You can rent a bike or ride the seaside rail bike along a former train line, or climb the lighthouse at Wanggung Marine Park for coastal views. Seafood restaurants across the island are a natural stop for lunch.
This food street reflects Ansan's diverse migrant community, with stalls serving Vietnamese, Central Asian, Chinese, Filipino, Middle Eastern, and Korean dishes within a few blocks. Shop signs in multiple languages and a small cultural museum with items from over 50 countries add to the immersive feel. It's one of the few places in Korea to sample this range of global cuisine in one walk.
Ansan pairs two very different experiences in one visit: Wongok-dong's Multicultural Street, where over a dozen countries' cuisines sit side by side, and the open coast of Daebudo Island, with tidal flats, reed fields, and seaside trails. Few places this close to Seoul combine urban cultural diversity with easy access to nature. It's a contrast-rich escape without a long drive.
Ansan's highlights are spread out: the food street sits near Ansan Station, while the tidal flats, reed fields, and beaches are out on Daebudo Island, linked by infrequent local buses. A private transfer lets you move between them on your own schedule, including timing the coast visit around low tide, without waiting on public transit connections.
