Zurich, Switzerland's largest city (though not its capital!), is an internationally recognized financial center nestled in the Alps. Originally established by the Romans as a customs station and fort called Turicum, Zurich's spot on the northern shores of Lake Zurich and along major European trade routes helped it evolve into a prosperous medieval city-state and modern economic hub. The route you took from Strasbourg to Zurich follows one of these historic trade paths, highlighting the city’s legacy of trade.
Located in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, Zurich is a linguist’s dream. The country boasts four official languages: French, Italian, German, and Romansh. In Zurich, you’ll find a high proficiency in English, French, and Italian among the residents as well. The city’s international appeal and high wages attract a diverse workforce, so you may even encounter fellow expats or travelers from your own country.
Zurich welcomes approximately 4 million visitors annually. With a population of only around 400,000 in the city proper and 1.5 million in the metropolitan area, this is quite a lot of guests! Zurich’s mild summers and proximity to ski resorts and hiking trails make it a popular choice for fans of the outdoors. Couple this with its luxury shopping and peaceful surroundings and you have all the ingredients for an elite travel destination.
Keep these travel tips in your back pocket when planning your trip from Strasbourg to Zurich!
In the Alps, the weather can be quite unpredictable due to its high elevation and large bodies of water. You might experience warm temperatures during the day under direct sunlight, but it can cool down rapidly in the evening.
To stay comfortable, dress in layers for your trip and be prepared for wind, rain, and even snow throughout much of the year. Dry, waterproof shoes and socks are essential for keeping warm and comfortable, even on the coldest days!
Switzerland’s long-standing neutrality often makes it a topic of jokes and stereotypes. Although it is encircled by EU nations, Switzerland itself is not an EU member but is part of the Schengen Zone. This allows for the free movement of people across borders without passport checks. However, you may have to declare goods being brought over the border, such as cigarettes and alcohol. Just in case, keep your passport nearby and be prepared for a border stop.
The journey from Strasbourg to Zurich covers about 140 miles (228 km) and can be completed in as little as 2.5 hours. You’ll need to skip the airport for this trip, as there are no direct flights, and the distance between these cities isn’t far enough to warrant flying anyways.
When planning your trip, take into account the size of your luggage, your budget, time limitations, and any side trips to smaller towns you may want to explore along the way to Zurich.
A private car transfer from Strasbourg to Zurich provides flexibility and allows you to visit historic towns and natural wonders you would otherwise miss as they blur past your window on the train. \
After your driver picks you up from your address in Strasbourg, you’ll be free to visit one of the many castles found nestled in the Alps. Tour the Chateau du Haut Koenigsbourg for stunning views of the mountains or Hallwyl Castle to see a moated castle for yourself.
The greatest convenience of booking with Daytrip is that you won’t need to worry about returning a rental car or dealing with parking in the city center. Your private driver will take you and your luggage directly to your accommodation, allowing you to start enjoying Zurich as soon as possible. A car service is the best choice for those who value flexibility, convenience, and the opportunity to see lesser-known cultural landmarks.
There are currently no direct trains from Strasbourg to Zurich, but SNCF offers a train route with a transfer in Mulhouse, France. The entire trip is 3 hours 10 minutes and tickets start at $58 (€54) for 2nd class and $117 (€109) for 1st class.

Welcome to Switzerland’s largest city! You’ve already experienced a lot on your journey from Strasbourg to Zurich, but now it’s time to savor your destination! Be sure to add these must-do activities to your Zurich itinerary:
Zurich’s Altstadt, or Old Town, whisks you back in time with its narrow cobblestone streets and beautifully preserved medieval architecture. Wander through its charming lanes to admire the iconic Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches, and discover quaint alleyways filled with unique shops, cozy cafes, and art galleries.

Another must-visit is Kunsthaus Zurich, one of Switzerland’s premier art museums, also located in the Old Town. The museum boasts an impressive collection of European paintings, sculptures, and contemporary works by masters like Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh.
The Swiss have a profound love for the outdoors, often going hiking, skiing, and swimming amidst their breathtaking natural scenery. In Zurich, you don’t even need to venture outside the city to connect with nature. Grab a pair of sturdy hiking shoes, dress comfortably, and hit the trails just like the locals.
During the brief summer months, take the time to relax along the peaceful shores of Lake Zurich. Stroll along the promenade, have a leisurely picnic in one of the lakeside parks, or rent equipment for water sports.
After you’ve seen the older, historic neighborhoods, have a drink in this vibrant district with modern art galleries, stylish cafes, and repurposed industrial buildings. Don't miss the Schiffbau Cultural Center, browse through the Viadukt Market Hall, and enjoy a variety of events and exhibitions in this young, dynamic area.
Bahnhofstrasse stands among the globe’s most exclusive shopping avenues. Here, you can peruse an array of luxury boutiques, upscale department stores, and designer shops, all offering an impressive selection of high-end fashion, exquisite jewelry, and the finest Swiss watches.
Zurich has indoor and outdoor activities year-round and remains a popular destination even in winter when many European cities see a drop in tourism. This is largely due to Zurich’s strong skiing culture and its proximity to the mountains.
In summer, Zurich’s temperatures average around 65°F (19°C), with highs reaching approximately 75°F (25°C), making for pleasant weather even during the warmest months. If you'd like Zurich at its most peaceful, come in the spring or fall, in between the summer tourist season and ski season.
But with this in mind, the best time to do your Strasbourg to Zurich transfer is whenever you wish!

Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation
“Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.”
“We were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.”
“Used the service to go from Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt. Ahmed H was our driver and he was perfect. The car was new, clean, he had water and snacks for us, and accommodated our stops. Great service from him and would recommend it.”
Comfortable and Safe Rides in Mexico
“Used Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. One of our drivers, Miguel, also played the best music! Will definitely use Daytrip on our next trip to Mexico.”
