The bus from Playa del Carmen to Tulum city center takes about 2 hours, and from there you’ll need to transfer to either a taxi or an on-demand shuttle to Tulum Airport as it is not yet possible to take a direct bus journey from Playa del Carmen. The bus only costs around $2-3, but keep in mind that the 30-minute ride with a taxi or private shuttle may greatly increase the cost of this trip.
The shuttle services from Playa del Carmen will get you as far as Pino Suarez. From there, you will need to find transportation for the final 11-minute journey to the airport (either with another on-demand shuttle or a taxi). Tickets for the shuttle journey cost on average $4-9, and the taxi ride to the airport will be an additional cost even if it is only a short distance to the airport.
After you complete your Playa del Carmen to Tulum Airport transfer, you can look forward to the sun-soaked terminal designs and Mayan art awaiting you in the airport. While dining options are limited as the airport has only recently opened, there are some prepared food stands and coffee stalls. “Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point.
