The car trip from Hue to Hoi An takes 2 hours and 40 minutes, covering a distance of about 76 miles (123 km). On the way, you can elevate your transfer with sightseeing stops to experience parts of Vietnam you may otherwise have never seen.
One possible stop is the serene Pagoda of the Celestial Lady, an active monastery featuring a 7-story towering pagoda that visitors can climb to see the golden Buddha at the top and take in incredible views of the surrounding gardens. This is a unique opportunity to see the monks carrying on their daily duties while relishing the pristine gardens.
You can also stop at the Tomb of Khai Dinh, the Emperor from 1916 to 1925. The elaborate tomb took 11 years to complete and required a massive 30% increase in local taxes to fund it. The richly ornamented building is well worth exploring, from the intricate facade to the Oriental-Baroque style murals inside depicting the Four Seasons, the Eight Precious Objects, and the Eight Fairies.
After your Hue to Hoi An transfer, you will find yourself at the heart of the central Vietnamese coast, a former trading powerhouse that offers a remarkably well-preserved glimpse of the country’s history. In the late 16th century, the city played a key role in the Silk Road trade and hosted Japanese and Chinese traders as well as representatives of the Dutch East India Company and was even known to be frequented by European spies.
The result of its storied past is a uniquely blended city with features from each of its dominant trading partners evident in lasting architectural and cultural footholds.
The city is well-known among travelers and ex-pats for its incredible food scene and friendly people, and visitors will also be delighted by the preservation of the town’s original layout and over 800 examples of ancient architecture. Hoi An is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasting a blend of Japanese, Chinese, French, and Vietnamese architectural styles and cultural touchstones.
The city offers a range of activities for the whole family, including museums and exhibitions that allow visitors to learn more about traditional crafts such as ceramics and water puppets. Hoi An is also a popular destination for classic Vietnamese travel experiences such as cruises through coconut forests in basket boats, and guided bike rides through rice paddies. The former trade city also hosts a diverse contemporary art scene, with a range of workshops and galleries available for the artistically minded traveler to enjoy.
Some preparation ahead of your journey from Hue to Hoi An can greatly elevate your travel experience and help you to make the most of your time at your destination.
For many people, a private driving transfer is the most convenient and comfortable option for the Hue to Hoi An transfer. The door-to-door service means you’ll be picked up directly at your accommodation in Hue and dropped off at your accommodation (or destination of your choice) in Hoi An, all while being accompanied by one of Daytrip’s friendly, professional drivers.
Particularly along Southeast Asian routes, the private drive experience is very competitively priced, making this the perfect trip to try out a more luxurious mode of travel without investing too much.
It’s a good idea to leave a little space in your luggage for any wearables you pick up in Hoi An, as this city in particular is famous for its tailor shops, where you can have clothing made to your specifications by local craftsmen. While some shops are more touristy and may produce a less reputable product, you can ask around at your accommodation or with your guides to find high-quality tailors.

The Chua Cua, also called the Japanese bridge, is an ornate covered bridge known for its tranquility. The Bridge features two statues, one of a monkey and one of a dog, supposedly because of its construction beginning in the Year of the Monkey (1593) and ending in the Year of the Dog (1595). This is an incredible stop for photos, and it offers a view of the charming historic surroundings as well as access to several fascinating galleries.
An Bang Beach is a picturesque sandy beach, within easy reach from the center of Hoi An Ancient Ton. The white sand and turquoise waters make for the perfect relaxing escape from urban development, and its calm waves make it a great choice for families to play in the water safely.
The iconic Night Market is one of the most memorable experiences in Hoi An, known worldwide for its beautiful lighting by paper lanterns and colorful glass lamps all along the various vendor stalls. Some of the vendors have even taken to the water in boats lined with the same colorful lanterns. This is a great place to find local street foods as well as trinkets and clothing to bring home, but the bulk of its appeal is in simply strolling along the paths lighted by hundreds of lanterns.
However you choose to spend your time here, be sure to include a visit to some of the many art galleries and studios in Hoi An. The contemporary art scene of the city has grown a great deal in recent years and offers a stunning blend of traditional motifs and modern techniques.
As you plan your tour from Hue to Hoi An, keep in mind that many people choose to visit Hoi An during Vietnam’s dry season from around February to April. Consider shifting your visit to the shoulder months of June and July, when you’ll have to deal with higher humidity and experience warmer temperatures, but you’ll find much better deals on flights and accommodation due to the reduced crowds.
Most travelers avoid the peak of monsoon season in the winter months, making September-November a good time to visit as well, to enjoy fewer crowds while facing only infrequent showers.

Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation
“Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.”
“We were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.”
“Used the service to go from Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt. Ahmed H was our driver and he was perfect. The car was new, clean, he had water and snacks for us, and accommodated our stops. Great service from him and would recommend it.”
Comfortable and Safe Rides in Mexico
“Used Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. One of our drivers, Miguel, also played the best music! Will definitely use Daytrip on our next trip to Mexico.”
