Gurye is approximately 270 km (168 miles) from Seoul and around 100 km (62 miles) from Gwangju. From Seoul, the drive by private transfer typically takes around 3 to 3.5 hours. Gurye is one of South Korea's most underrated rural escapes, and it rewards visitors who make the effort to get there. Gurye's highlights are spread across a wide area â the temple and national park entrance, the festival village, Ssangsanjae, and the juniper forest are not walkable from each other and are not well served by public transport. Getting between them without a car means long waits or backtracking.
