Lake Zakher is a manmade lake that formed accidentally. The desalination system that has been essential in the UAEâs development pumps its wastewater underground, which in turn pushes up groundwater levels. The result is Lake Zakher - a manmade desert oasis. This rare watersource in the desert has become a haven for birds, drawing herons, flamingos, stilts, and many other species, not to mention the birdwatchers who flock here to see them.
