Named after Prince George, who became King George V of the United Kingdom from 1910 to 1936, Lake George is a vast body of water spanning 250 square kilometres in Western Uganda. Locals fish in the lake as one of their main economic activities, for many species including tilapia and nigripinnis, proving very productive and profitable. The waters are filled with hippos and along the lakeshore gather elephants and buffalo and other fascinating animals as they bathe and hydrate. Aquatic birds such as pelicans and storks can also be seen regularly at the lake. Popular activities at Lake George include relaxing boat rides or canoeing for those seeking more adventure. It is the ideal spot for nature walks and sightseeing the glorious scenery and outstanding views. Please note that due to the extensive wildlife conservation efforts, there is an admission fee ($40 for adults and $20 for children), payable upon entry to the park.
