Ravenna to Faenza and Brisighella: Private day trip

Dating back to the 2nd century BC, the town prospered producing pottery until the fall of the Roman Empire. Several centuries later, the town began to recuperate, and by the late Middle Ages, many of the town’s most notable buildings were constructed. During the Renaissance, the town’s glazed earthenware became so popular it became known by the French name for Faenza - faience. Today, the monuments of the town’s success are plain to see. A short walk through the old town center offers two piazzas, an early renaissance cathedral, gorgeous fountain and 16th century clock tower. The neoclassical Palazzo Milzetti now serves as a museum to the the city’s wealthy heyday. But the main attraction is the International Ceramics Museum, which showcases the town’s namesake faience, alongside antique ceramics from all over the world, and contemporary pieces from household names like Picasso.
