With both Pompeii and Cantina del Vesuvio in the rearview mirror, you can get excited about your explorations in Lucignano before you get to Florence. This medieval town has incredible sights like its golden tree!

So you see, you won’t want to miss out on a car trip with a private door-to-door service like Daytrip. Your English-speaking driver can't wait for you to book so they can share the journey to Florence, Italy, with you.

About Florence

There is no denying that Florence is one of Italy's most visited cities. According to estimates, Florence sees more than 11 million visitors yearly. No matter who you ask, they will tell you that a visit to Florence not only captivates and amazes but also seduces and enchants. A quick visit can quickly turn into a months-long sojourn. It's definitely a city you’re going to want to explore.

Florence has become a city that nearly every traveler wants to explore. But how did it become this grand destination? Simple: its roots lie deeply entrenched in Roman history. According to historians, Florence became a major hub in the Middle Ages after the Romans founded it.

Florence thrived under the rule of emperors and popes between the 11th and 15th centuries, but it wasn’t until the 15th and 16th centuries that the city experienced its peak. This is partly because it was the cradle of the Renaissance and under the rule of powerful families like the Medici. During these centuries, many of the architectural wonders seen today were constructed.

If you plan on exploring Florence, you should know that it can be found along the banks of the Arno in northern central Italy. No matter how you plan on visiting, whether by car, bus, or train, you should expect to be swept away by the city's unique beauty. From incredible art, history, and culture to mouthwatering cuisine, angelic music, and architecture you won't want to tear your eyes away from, this is a city that offers it all.

Just don't forget to visit a few of the city's most popular and little-known attractions during your stay, including the Florence Baptistery, Ponte Vecchio, and the Vivoli Gelato restaurant. As long as you visit these places—and others—you can rest easy knowing you saw some of the best things Florence offers explorers.

From Positano to Florence: travel tips

Getting from Positano to Florence is a little tricky, but that's only half of your planning agenda. The other half is memorizing a few must-know travel tips that can help ensure your Italian trip runs smoothly. To help you with this portion of your trip planning, we’ve shared a few of the best travel tips for those completing a Positano to Florence transfer in the near future.

Carry cash during your trip

When driving from Positano to Florence, it's important to carry cash. Although debit and credit cards are often widely accepted, not every restaurant, market, or store accepts them. So, to avoid missing out on buying things you know you’ll love, make sure you carry cash. There is no shortage of ATMs found along the route, and you don’t need to draw out thousands and make yourself a target; a hundred or so should be fine.

Don’t forget to validate your public transportation tickets

If you’re going to travel with public transportation, you need not forget to validate your tickets. Unfortunately, when you travel from Positano to Florence, you’ll need to validate your tickets or risk hefty fines. So before booking a public train or bus, consider this added element and whether or not it's worth the hassle when you can instead drive with a private transfer company like Daytrip.

Consider using a door-to-door car service

Private door-to-door car services often get a bad reputation because of their expensive prices. But what if you could book an affordable trip? With Daytrip, you can. This car service is worth considering since a booking can cost as little as $178 (€163) from Positano to Florence. Not to mention, traveling with Daytrip offers numerous benefits, including the option to sightsee along the way to places like Anfiteatro Campano and the Pastena Caves.

How to get from Positano to Florence

Getting from Positano to Florence can be somewhat of a challenge, but if you know your transportation options, the trip is not as daunting as you might fear. So, to quell your transportation-related stresses when you’re planning a Positano to Florence transfer, we’ve shared a few of the best ways to travel from one city to the next.

From Positano to Florence by train

A popular way to travel from Positano to Florence is by train. However, to take the train, you’ll need to get to Naples first, as high-speed trains only leave from Naples to Florence. A taxi or bus to Naples from Positano will take under two hours.

Then, the high-speed train from Naples to Florence will take two and a half to three hours. The cost of the taxi or bus can range from $50 to $150 (€46-€137), and the cost of the train from Naples to Florence can range between $50 and $100 (€46-€91.50). This means the total trip will take more than four hours and cost upwards of $100, so it might not be worth it.

From Positano to Florence by flight

Unfortunately, you cannot fly from Positano to Florence without direct flights. Instead, you must take a bus or train to Naples from Positano. Once you get to Naples, you can book a flight to Florence.

The travel time to the airport and the flight will take three to four hours. This can be bothersome since changing modes of transportation can be challenging and tiring. It's also relatively expensive with tickets costing between $100 and $200 (€91.50-€183), if not more, depending on when you book your flight.

From Positano to Florence by bus

If you’re looking for the most economical way to travel, consider taking the bus from Positano to Florence. A one-way ticket costs between $25 and $50 (€23-€46), which is cheap compared to other transportation options.

However, the biggest downside is that you’ll be on the bus for a while. On average, a bus trip from Positano to Florence takes between seven and nine hours. Being on a bus with strangers is a long time, with uncomfortable seating and few amenities. But the views are scenic. So you’ll need to decide if a cheap trip is worth the hassle and minimal benefits.

From Positano to Florence by private car transfer service

Luxury travel has never looked better if you choose Daytrip's private door-to-door private car service as your chosen method of transportation. With Daytrip, you’re guaranteed a luxury, safe, reliable, and exciting driving experience.

You’ll have an English-speaking driver who can share their travel insights about the places you want to visit along the way and Florence itself. Not to mention, the trip is also more affordable than you might expect. You’ll also get to choose when you travel to better suit your travel plans, and the trip from Positano to Florence will only take about five hours and 50 minutes.

So, if you value privacy, flexibility, and convenience, you may want to consider booking a ride with Daytrip to get to Florence.

Things to do when you get to Florence

Once you get to Florence, there is so much that you can do, so understandably, it can be daunting trying to determine what you should and shouldn’t do. So, to help you with this, we’ve shared a few of the best things to do in Florence for those who are contemplating a Positano to Florence transfer this year. This is not all there is to do in the city, but these are a few highlights you will want to see and enjoy during your visit.

Ponte Vecchio

Florence’s main attraction is undoubtedly its Renaissance art and architecture, but did you know the city is also home to incredible medieval structures like the Ponte Vecchio? The Ponte Vecchio might not be a building in the traditional sense since it is a bridge. However, it's still an excellent example of how incredible medieval architecture is and how long-lasting it can be when well preserved.

If you want to visit Ponte Vecchio, you need only make your way to the bridge, where you can walk across it or pause halfway across to take a swoon-worthy picture with your significant other. You can also even do a spot of shopping, considering the bridge is lined with many different vendors, including those selling impressive jewelry.

Florence Baptistery

You shouldn’t visit Florence without ensuring you take a turn at the Florence baptistery, the city's oldest building. This iconic octagonally built building dates back to ancient Rome. Since its completion, it has been a focus of religious, artistic, and civic activity, and it's not hard to see why, considering its history and impressive beauty.

If you decide to tour the Florence Baptistery, you should take in the gorgeous stained glass windows and the unique 16th-century bronze doors, which are believed to have been built by Lorenzo Ghiberti.

Vivoli Gelato

You can easily get swept away by the incredible sights when touring Florence. However, you shouldn’t neglect your tastebuds, which is why we recommend visiting Vivoli Gelato when you visit. This gelato shop is one of the oldest in Florence and is home to some of the most delicious ice cream you’ll ever enjoy. It's also a little-known spot that sells authentic gelato, so you won’t be deceived by gimmicky ice cream that doesn’t do true gelato justice.

When is the best time to visit Florence?

So when should you visit Florence if you’re planning a Positano to Florence trip? The simple answer is any time of the year. Florence is one of the rare European destinations where visiting year-round is not only encouraged but recommended.

However, this doesn’t mean that some parts of the year aren’t a little better than others to explore this magnificent city. For example, anyone who wants to dodge the particularly high prices of the peak summer season should rather book a trip to Florence between May and September. Not only will you save on accommodation and transportation pricing during these months, but you’ll also get to hike and explore the outdoors since the weather is nice.

It was a fantastic trip.

We were extremely satisfied with the quality of service we received from Day Trip. We had two Day Trip rides on August 31 from Athens to Lefkada and September 7 from Lefkada back to Athens. Both trips included stops at scenic sites in Greece. Both drivers were excellent and accommodating. However, we’d especially like to recognize Panos Peppas, who was our driver from Lefkada to Athens. Panos was incredibly nice & pleasant and delivered outstanding customer service, which included handling all of luggage, providing us with cold waters throughout the trip, providing us protein bars, providing us with printed materials on the Corinth Canal (one of scenic stops), looking up and providing us with terminal & gate info for our flight back home and providing us with a recipe for tzatziki.

Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation

Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.

Daytrip never disappoints

We were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.

Used Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. Great way to travel and see some sights on the way

We did not know what to expect with this trip and booked from Australia. We were initially looking for an easy way to travel from Granada to Malaga. We decided not to waste the opportunity to see something additional on our way. Miguel certainly exceeded our expectations. His English was excellent (unfortunately we speak very little Spanish), and he was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the regions as we passed through and also discussing some of the local ways. Miguel took us to Antequera as planned and ensured we were able to easily get our tickets to the attractions without any sense of rushing us. We were picked up and dropped off punctually and really enjoyed our trip. Hopefully we will return to Spain and we can use this service again sometime.

Excellent service

We used the service twice while in Thailand. Extremely prompt and efficient customer service. Best rate being offered in Chiang Mai for the travels. Polite, punctual, professional and English speaking drivers. Clean, comfortable vehicles. Being a regular visitor to Thailand, this was hands down the best service. Most pleased with the company. I hope it sustains the excellence of service that was rendered to us.
