Avocado capital of the world, narrowest house in the world. This city is a Guinness Book of Records favourite!
Founded in 1533, Uruapan (lit: “Eternal Spring”) was named in recognition of the Cupatitzio River that flows through the city. The park is a tropical escape from the hustle and bustle of town, as birds and butterflies fill the trees as ice-cold water cascades over rocks and down waterfalls. In the city, visit La Huatapera Handicrafts Museum, an ex-hospital from the 1500’s, for an insight into the city’s rich culture. Casa Angosta, otherwise known as The World’s Narrowest House at just 1.42 metres wide, is home to an entire family and an unusual sight to see during your time in Uruapan. And did you know that Uruapan is the avocado capital of the world?! The city made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest batch of guacamole, producing almost 1,300 kgs using one ton of avocados!
