Avdat National Park
A breathtaking desert oasis is watched over by the ruins of an ancient city.
About
Nestled in the heart of Israelâs Negev Desert, Avdat National Park is one of the countryâs most accessible natural wonders. Here, the waters of the Avdat spring create one of the desertâs longest oases, and for thousands of years has been attracting both people and animals. A hike up the rocky canyon provides spectacular desert views with the greenery of the oasis amidst the rocky landscape creating a stunning contrast. As you work your way up the canyon, youâll pass caves carved into the rock face that were used by Byzantine-era monks. If you prefer history to nature, you can head directly to the remains of Avdat city - a Nabatean Period settlement where youâll find a well-preserved Byzantine-era bathhouse, a Roman burial cave, and various other ruins.
