Cannes dazzles as the French Riviera's glamorous festival city, where luxury yachts dot the azure harbor and celebrities grace red carpets. Stroll the legendary La Croisette boulevard past designer boutiques and Belle Époque hotels, explore Le Suquet's old town cobblestones, relax on sandy beaches, and savor Provençal cuisine with Mediterranean views year-round. Along with its film festival, Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller To Catch a Thief (1954) was filmed in Cannes.

Antibes charms with its historic old town wrapped in 16th-century ramparts between two sparkling bays. Explore Picasso Museum in the seafront Grimaldi Castle, wander through Provence's largest morning market, and admire mega-yachts at Port Vauban. Sandy beaches, Cap d'Antibes coastal paths, and authentic Provençal atmosphere make this Riviera gem less pretentious than nearby Cannes.

Daytrip is loved all around the world. Here's why.
In high season, especially summer, popular waterfront restaurants in both Cannes and Antibes fill up quickly. It is worth making a reservation for lunch if you have a specific spot in mind. Your driver may also be able to recommend local favorites that are less crowded than the main promenade spots.
It is about 24 miles (39 km) from Villefranche-sur-Mer to Cannes, roughly a 45-minute drive depending on traffic. From there, Antibes is just another 8 miles (13 km) or about 20 minutes along the coast. Your private driver handles all the navigation, so you can sit back and enjoy the views along the Cote d'Azur.
Yes, La Croisette is a wide, flat promenade that is very easy to walk. The full stretch is about 2.5 miles (4 km) from end to end, but most of the action is concentrated in the central section near the Palais des Festivals. Comfortable shoes are all you need for Cannes; Antibes old town has more uneven cobblestones worth keeping in mind.
The Cannes Film Festival typically takes place in mid-May. If your visit overlaps with it, the city is especially buzzy and hotel rates spike, but most of the promenade, beaches, and old town remain accessible. Outside of that period, Cannes is quieter and easier to explore at a relaxed pace.
The Musee Picasso occupies the Chateau Grimaldi, a seafront castle that Picasso used as a studio in 1946. The collection includes paintings, drawings, prints, and ceramics he created during that period, plus works by other modern artists. It is one of the most atmospheric art museums on the Riviera and very manageable to visit in an hour or so.
Spring (April to June) and early fall (September to October) offer the most pleasant weather for exploring both cities on foot, with warm but not overly hot temperatures and fewer crowds than peak summer. July and August are very busy along the Riviera, but the beaches are in full swing if that is your priority.
Cannes is a year-round destination with plenty to explore. Stroll La Croisette promenade past Belle Epoque hotels and designer boutiques, wander the cobblestone streets of Le Suquet old town, relax on sandy beaches, or sample Provencal cuisine with Mediterranean views. The Lerins Islands and local markets are also worth your time.
Antibes packs a lot into a compact old town. Top priorities include the Musee Picasso inside Grimaldi Castle, the morning market (one of the largest in Provence), the 16th-century ramparts, and the Port Vauban marina. The Cap d'Antibes coastal path is excellent if you want to stretch your legs with sea views.
