James Joyce Tower
James Joyce briefly called Martello Tower at Sandycove home, and it became the setting for the first chapter in his most famous work, “Ulysses.” This tower is now the site of the James Joyce museum, housing manuscripts and other personal items. Visitors can enjoy the tower’s panoramic views over Dublin Bay and see Forty Foot, the famous swimming spot mentioned in “Ulysses.” This area can get very windy and cold in the winter months, so spring or autumn visits may offer a more pleasant experience.

Howth
Howth is a charming coastal village offering cozy pubs, a working fishing port, and dramatic cliffside walks. On June 16, 1904, the day that “Ulysses” took place, Joyce and his future wife, Nora Barnacle, walked throughout Howth together on their first date. The day is now celebrated each year as Bloomsday. Visitors can follow the Bailey Lighthouse trail for stunning cliffside views, and spend time in the picturesque village, enjoying a lunch of the fresh seafood Howth is known for or stopping for a pint in a cozy pub.
