This Medieval monastery has endured multiple empires, invasions, and periods of abandonment, but today, it houses the next generation of Serbian Orthodox nuns.
关于
Gomionica Monastery (locally known as Monastir Gomionica) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located within Republika Srpska in Bosnia-Herzegovina. It was first recorded around 1536, but its origins stretch further back. It was originally known as Zalužje, but today it is named after the nearby Gomionica River. Its rich history includes periods of both prosperity and hardship. Its stone walls have survived abandonment, war damage, and multiple renovations throughout the centuries. The monastery's treasury houses icons dating from the 16th to 19th centuries, alongside antique manuscripts and printed books from the 14th to 17th centuries. Today, the Dominican Monastery functions as a female monastery or nunnery, and it is a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina as of 2006. Visitors can walk among its peaceful grounds and admire its medieval architecture that has endured for nearly five centuries.
