Victory Monument
The winged monument to the Red Army’s defeat of Nazi Germany recognizes the hard work and sacrifice of Russian soldiers during World War II.
Sobre
The Victory Monument memorial is set up like a maze that features carved reliefs of artwork that depict the horrors of war, the Holocaust, and the necessary sacrifices to defeat the Nazis. As you move through the darkened maze, you are led closer to the light until you are back in the open air with the large, white wings of victory. A sculpture garden surrounding the Victory Monument has artworks made out of old military equipment, such as tanks. The repurposed war materials create thought-provoking sculptures depicting peace-time symbols. The monument was funded by several Russian and Israeli citizens of Jewish descent and was opened in 2012 in a ceremony attended by both Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu.
