Sant Joan de Caselles Church

In traditional Andorran style, this Romanesque jewel’s raw stone work makes it look like it’s part of the countryside.

Sobre

Built between the 11th and 12th centuries along an ancient road, Sant Joan de Caselles is the quintessential example of Andorran Romanesque: built from raw stone, with a rectangular nave with wooden roof, semi-circular apse, topped off with a Lombardian bell tower. Inside is a 12th century mural depicting the crucifixion with Longinus and Stephanus, surrounded by the remains of Romanesque stucco. The 16th century altarpiece depicts scenes of the life and martyrdom of Saint John in a mixture of Italian and German Renaissance styles. Decidedly more modern, the Two Wheel Museum at the base of the museum rolls visitors through the history of the motorcycle since the beginning of the 20th century.
