Jagala Waterfall

A magnificent natural wonder of cascades rippling off a wide rocky crest becomes a glistening ice wall in wintertime.

Sobre

The Jagala Waterfall is a spectacle of nature, located in the lower course of the Jägala River just before it flows into the Gulf of Finland. It’s the widest natural waterfall in Estonia, boasting a width of up to 50 meters and a height of 8 meters. Flowing through a series of limestone cliffs, the waterfall creates a dramatic cascade of water that becomes even more magical in winter. As the water freezes, it becomes a stunning ice wall decorated with large icicles, with ice tunnels often forming on either side. In the springtime, witness the thunderous roar of the water as it melts. Walk down to the bottom of the flow of water on a convenient path of steps and observe one of the most resource rich fisheries at the mouth of the river, filled with trout and salmon. In addition to its natural beauty, Jagala waterfall is also steeped in Estonian folklore and legend, which says that the waterfall was created by a powerful giant who threw a massive rock into the river and caused the water to flow over the cliffs and become a spectacular waterfall.
