Daytrip is a platform that connects you with local drivers who will transport you door-to-door, from one city to the next. We also give you the opportunity to explore sights/attractions along the way. We drive, you discover.
All Daytrip bookings are one way. If you need a return trip on a different date, simply book this as a separate one-way trip. For a same-day excursion, please request a custom trip. If you plan to stay more than a couple hours, we still recommend booking two one way trips so you're not paying a driver for waiting.
For Daytrip’s private service, you can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before departure. For the Daytrip Pool shared shuttle, we offer 3 ticket options when booking: Non-refundable, Flexible with cancellations 24-hours before departure, and Super-flexible with cancellations up to 15-minutes before departure. While you can cancel your booking for a full refund up to 24 hours in advance, changes requested under 36 hours are subject to driver availability, especially in the high season.
Simply choose your origin and destination via our homepage and enter your departure date and time. Browse and add sightseeing stops along the way by following the booking instructions provided on screen. It's a simple, easy, and fun way to book your next adventure! And if you don’t see your desired route on our website, you can request a custom trip. You can even book without knowing your exact pick-up or drop-off address - we let you add these later!
Each passenger is allowed one large bag (29" x 21" x 11" / 74 x 53 x 28 cm) and one small bag (22" x 14" x 9" / 56 x 36 x 23 cm). Luxury sedans can only accommodate 2 large bags. We always send the vehicle that is the best fit for you and your luggage, so make sure to select the actual amount of luggage you are traveling with when booking. If you have oversized luggage, or are unsure if your luggage will fit, contact us.
Everywhere except the USA, drivers will supply appropriate child seats (just let us know during booking). In the USA, certain states require you to supply your own child seats.
Overview: transportation from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano
Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is Italy’s largest and busiest airport, and it has many international arrivals and departures. For foreign visitors vacationing in Positano, FCO is a natural entry point into Italy. It takes 3 hours and 40 minutes to drive from the Rome Airport to Positano, but it is still much faster than the mass transportation options available in southern Italy.
After you’ve cleared immigration and customs, your Daytrip driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall for you and your family. They will help with your luggage and whisk you away from the sprawling chaos of Rome.
As you head south, the landscape opens up into miles of vineyards eager for the sun. With someone else navigating Italy’s infamous roads, you’ll finally be able to relax after a long flight.
When Positano comes into view, your driver will take you straight to your accommodation and unload your luggage. Welcome to the Amalfi Coast!
About Positano
During your ride from Rome Airport to Positano, it will feel as if you’ve traveled to a whole other country as you leave the loud, hectic Italian capital for the relaxing coastline.
Positano’s maritime legacy
Positano was part of the Amalfi Republic, a maritime superpower from the 9th to 12th centuries. They conducted trade in the Mediterranean with members of the Arab world and the Byzantine Empire. The Amalfi Republic was best known at the time for shipbuilding, long-distance voyages, and paper production.
Their impact on maritime culture is still seen today. The “Amalfi Laws” were the first set of global maritime laws and became the bedrock of the legal system in the modern age. Amalfi sailors also perfected the modern compass.
In 1343, Positano was swept into the Tyrrhenian Sea by a tsunami that destroyed the ports, ships, and any buildings on the shore. The resident population never fully recovered from the disaster and Positano remained a small village for the next several hundred years.
Positano’s comeback
Positano was a blip on the global travel radar until the 1950s when John Steinbeck published “Positano Bites Deep” in the May 1953 edition of Harper’s Bazaar. This jump-started tourism to Positano and the broader Amalfi Coast region. Today, it is a popular vacation destination with Italians and foreigners alike.
From Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano: travel tips
Positano is all about relaxation! Do these two simple tasks before your transfer from Rome Airport to Positano for the most rejuvenating vacation you’ll ever have.
Let your accommodation in Positano know your arrival time
For larger chain hotels, this tip might not apply, but if you booked your room from a private individual or a small, local hotel, let them know your estimated arrival time. Before starting your trip from the Rome Airport to Positano, write them a quick message.
In Positano, many of the accommodations available to rent are from private owners who may not be on the property 24/7. When you give them an update on your exact arrival time, they can arrange your check-in. As a bonus, the room may even be available sooner than the official check-in time.
Arrange both of your airport transfers before your flight to Rome
If you will also be departing from the Rome Airport, take the time before your vacation starts to book both your arrival and departure transfer services to the airport. Once you arrive at FCO, you’ll be able to fully relax and put your brain in vacation mode.
Because the Rome Airport to Positano transfer is so long, arranging your trip back to the airport in advance guarantees your entire family will be able to travel together and make it to the flight.
How to get from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano
All roads may lead to Rome, but the roads to Positano are a different story! Positano does not have a train station, and the roads are not built for speed. You have two options for your Rome Airport to Positano transfer: one private car or three to four mass transit transfers.
Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano with a Daytrip driver
Renting and driving a car can be a challenge for visitors who are not used to the intense driving style in Italy. You will also need an international driver’s license.
Hire a private driver to have the convenience and speed of driving without all of the extra logistics. Your driver will take you from the arrivals hall of FCO to your accommodation in Positano quickly, easily, and without you hauling luggage all over Italy.
The drive is three hours and 40 minutes, and prices start from $103 (€95) per passenger.
Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano with public transportation
Southern Italy’s public transportation connections leave much to be desired, especially when you are tired from a flight and carrying suitcases. To make your way from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Positano by public transportation, your trip will take approximately five hours and look something like this:
Ride the train for 30 minutes from the airport to Roma Termini (Rome’s central train station).
Transfer to another train for 1.5 hours to either Naples or Salermo.
From Naples, take a 1.5-hour long taxi or local bus to Positano.
From Salerno, ride the ferry for 35 minutes to Positano.
Positano is stacked nearly vertically up the cliffside, so after the ferry ride, it will be all uphill to your accommodation unless you call a taxi.
Things to do when you get to Positano
The first thing you’ll do after your drive from Rome Airport to Positano is, of course, rest! In the morning, start the day off right with a traditional Italian breakfast and get ready for fun in the sun!
Get heavenly views on the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods)
Taking a hike on The Path of the Gods is one of the most popular activities to do in Positano. This hiking trail network connects the village of Bomerano to Nocelle (a hamlet very close to Positano). The trails highlight all the best that the Amalfi Coast offers: panoramic views of the sea, bird watching, hidden coves, and the feeling you are walking among the gods, as its name suggests.
The entire hike is 5.8 miles (9 km) and has been rated “moderately difficult” by hiking guides. While this entire hike might not be suitable for all ages and skill levels, there are shorter sections you can try with trailheads in Positano.
Fill your plate in Positano
Positano’s cuisine heavily features fresh seafood right from its shores. Pull up a chair at one of its many restaurants with outdoor patios for some spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams) and pesce all’acqua pazza (fish cooked in broth).
The Positano sun literally grows on trees! Limoncello is a sweet liqueur made from lemons, the region’s most popular fruit. It is incredibly popular and the main symbol of Positano’s gastronomy. Lemoncello is served in a shot glass, but don’t shoot it just yet! This drink is meant to be sipped and savored.
If you’re still craving lemons, head to a bakery for Delizia al Limone. This rich pastry is a delicacy that is difficult to find outside of this region of Italy. It has a tart and sweet flavor profile.
What is the best time to visit Positano
Positano has the best weather and the thinnest crowds in the spring (March to May) and autumn (September and October). Springtime brings beautiful flowers to the gardens and balconies, but in the autumn, the water is warmer after having been heated by the sun all summer long.
Summer is an overwhelmingly popular time to visit, but the accommodations are more expensive, dinner reservations are harder to secure, and the beaches are more crowded. The afternoon sun can also be too hot for activities like hiking and suntanning.

“Gonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.”
“We were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.”
“Used the service to go from Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt. Ahmed H was our driver and he was perfect. The car was new, clean, he had water and snacks for us, and accommodated our stops. Great service from him and would recommend it.”
“Used Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. One of our drivers, Miguel, also played the best music! Will definitely use Daytrip on our next trip to Mexico.”
