World Map at Lake Klejtrup
Through decades of work, one man created this walkable scale model of the world.
About
In 1943, while working on the drainage of the surrounding meadows, Søren Poulsen found a stone shaped like Jutland, which inspired him to create The World Map at Lake Klejtrup. Poulsen devoted the final 25 years of his life creating this scale model, where a mere 27 centimeters corresponds to a full 111-kilometer degree of latitude. Major deserts are of course made from sand, and each country is marked by its flag, so you can give yourself a geography quiz walk walking across the world. Next to the map, there’s also a small petting zoo with goats, rabbits, and pigs, and a playground to keep little ones entertained. Photo by Frank Vincentz under CC BY-SA 3.0
