Continuously streaming off a moss-covered cliff face, this beautiful waterfall is a gossamer curtain of water.
Located in the remote forests of southern Cebu, Tumalog Falls was only discovered in 2012. Rocky outcrops keep the falling water in contact with the cliff face for most of their ~80 meter descent, forming what’s known as a “horsetail waterfall” for the many thin strands of white. The moss-covered cliff face forms a green horseshoe around the bright blue pool of water at the base of the falls. Only about waist deep, the pool’s cold water offers a welcome respite from the tropical heat, while the spray coming from the falls themselves creates a natural shower. A paved road down a steep hill leads nearly all the way to the falls, but if you don’t want to wear yourself out on the trip back up, you might want to pay for a scooter ride. As the water-flow is dependent on rainfall, the falls can be a bit depleted during the summer.
