Taga Taisha
Nestled in the southern reaches of Hikone City within Shiga Prefecture, this shrine is not merely another stop on a pilgrimage but an embodiment of timeless reverence, tracing back over 1,300 years.
About
Taga Taisha is one of Japan’s oldest sacred sites, boasting a history interwoven with nobility and generosity. The great Hideyoshi Toyotomi, seeking divine solace for his ailing wife, graced the shrine with new edifices and a resplendent garden in 1588. Visitors traverse a straight sando leading to the hallowed romon gate, encircling a kairo that enshrines the inner sanctum. Subsequently, a haiden and a shimei-zukuri style honden adorned with chigi and katsuogi stand as testaments to its grandeur. The entire complex is crowned with Japanese cedar roofing. Adjacent to the shrine offices stands an enchanting garden with a stone bridge and a sanzon seki, mirroring the shrine's timeless splendor. Nestled amid lush trees, Taga Taisha lies merely twelve kilometers from the serene Lake Biwa, beckoning visitors on an enchanting journey of spirituality and history.
