The towering shrine at the center of this family-friendly park is dedicated to the country’s influential second president.
In the heart of the former Filipino capital, the Quezon Memorial Circle was originally intended to be the site of the National Capitol building to house the Congress of the Philippines. These plans were interrupted by World War II, and after the war, president Philippine President Sergio Osmeña ordered a memorial to his predecessor, President Manuel L. Quezon, in its stead. The art deco monument is 66 meters tall, representing the age Quezon was when he died, and its three pylons are topped by angels wearing the traditional dress of the Philippines three major island groups. At the base of the shrine is the Museum of Manuel L. Quezon, which exhibits relics and memorabilia related to former President Manuel Quezon and his wife, as well as the couple’s mausoleum. Surrounding the shrine is an oval shaped park with food and shopping stalls, bike rentals, and even a small amusement park to keep locals and visitors alike entertained.
