Plawniowice Palace

This aristocratic residence was ransacked by the invading Red Army, but has been restored to its original glory.

About

In 1737, Franciszek Wolfgang von Stechow purchases the tiny town of Plawniowice, but its noble palace wasn’t built until the 1880s. Taking cues from the west, the three-wing structure, with its contrasting red brick walls and stone ornamentation, is done up in the Dutch neo-mannerist style. Bristling with turrets, towers, dormers, and needles of different shapes and sizes, the palace stands out from the surrounding landscape park and canal. The Ballestrems lived here in comfort until the end of World War II, when it was abandoned in the face of the advancing Red Army, who looted and the lavish interiors. The palace was left neglected until 1993, when it was fully renovated. Today, the palace is owned by the church, who allow visitors can wander the lovely landscape park to appreciate the beautifully restored facade from every angle. Tours of the interior are limited, so we would recommend checking their schedule, or booking ahead at https://palac.plawniowice.pl/index.php?q=25&id_q=3
