Denmark
The boulders that dot this grassy field signify centuries of Nordic burials.
As historians have delved deeper into what may have happened here, there have been remains of ancient villages found as well, indicating that it was in fact a significant center for trade at the time. Due to its great historic value and museum exhibitions, Lindholm Hoje has been featured on Culture Trip’s List of 20 Unmissable Attractions in Denmark. This area was victim to a massive sand drift which happened in the year 1000, where the sand completely covered the burial site. This adversely resulted in completely preserving the stone circles, which is why they are still existing as they are today. Once on site, you can also visit the Lindholm Hoje Museum which has fascinating exhibitions that summarize the ancient viking history.
