Albania
This beach is considered to be among Albania's most beautiful beaches, and like all beautiful things, it is difficult to obtain.
Gjipe Beach lies in the remote Gjipe Canyon between the towns of Dhermi and Vuno in the Albanian Riviera. The journey there is as remarkable as the destination, featuring quite a challenging coastal drive. From the SH8 road, the first 2.5km to St. Theodor's Monastery is paved, ending at a parking lot. The final 1.4km descent to the beach is done by hiking down an unpaved trail with a 9% gradient, featuring hairpin turns and dangerous cliff edges without guardrails. Only high-clearance 4WD vehicles can attempt this narrow path. The beach itself, nicknamed "The Gods Garden," rewards those who hiked down with white sand, turquoise waters, and towering rock formations. Two cafes operate during the summer months. Like most of Albania, the area features historic Cold War bunkers along the cliffs. Please note that once you park the car, the beach is a 20 to 30 minute hike downhill. While its seclusion is part of the allure, you may come across wild animals during your visit.
