New Zealand
Visit one of the most accessible glaciers in the world.
The Fox Glacier (also known as Te Moeka o Tuawe) is located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. This impressive mass of ice is 36 square kilometers, which is larger than the city of Christchurch, and 13 kilometers long. During the last ice age, this glacier reached even further than the coastline of today. Glaciers obviously move quite slowly, but this one moves 10 times faster than most around the world, causing its terminal face appearance to change year by year. This is a great hike which has delicate beauty through a valley carved by the travelling ice. Perfect for both experienced and inexperienced hikers, you shouldn’t pass up an opportunity to experience this amazing natural wonder.
