While it might be fed by the “Little River”, this big, powerful waterfall is nothing like its name would suggest.
Located in the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve 1,384 meters above sea level, the Cascada Rio Malo pours into a lush canyon at the edge of the Amazon basin. Named after its source river, the 50 meter falls are far from little, and the sheer power of the water erupting over the cliff face creates a roar you can hear before the falls are even in sight. A short (often muddy) path follows the river through the forested gorge to the base of the falls, giving the opportunity to admire the area’s rich ecology along with the magical falls.
