Battle of Britain Memorial

Situated in Hellfire Corner, where fierce dogfights raged, this tribute commemorates Britain's finest pilots.

About

The Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne is a tribute to the airmen who defended Britain's skies in 1940. Located atop Kent's White Cliffs overlooking the Channel, this monument features "The Wing" visitor centre, an architecturally striking building designed to resemble a Spitfire wing. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015, the award-winning structure houses The Scramble Experience, offering an immersive journey into the historic air battle. Stand in the cockpit-shaped viewing area and watch as high-tech screens superimpose historical footage of German aircraft onto real-time views of the Channel, just as they would have appeared in 1940. Created by surviving pilot Geoffrey Page to ensure his comrades' sacrifice wouldn't be forgotten, the memorial stands sentinel at "Hellfire Corner," where many pivotal aerial battles occurred.
